The Professional Development Visa (PDV) (subclass 470
) is a temporary residence visa. The PDV enables Australian education and training institutions to sponsor groups of professionals, managers and government officials from overseas who seek to enhance their professional/managerial skills. The PDV enables the visa holder to enter and remain in Australia for up to a maximum period of 12 months.
There are two key stages to applying for a professional development visa:
- sponsorship approval for the education provider, and
- visa application.
Some general conditions of the PDV include:
- sponsorships must be approved before visa applications can be lodged.
- sponsoring institutions must agree to specific conditions related to their conduct and the conduct of those entering Australia for training programs, and
- individuals cannot apply for a PDV.
You should refer to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s
website for the most up-to-date information about the PDV and how to apply.
